Illustration System
— the challenge
A bakery with soul.
A brand that refused to match.
The artisan food space is crowded. Walk into any farmers market or specialty grocery store and you'll find a dozen small-batch bakeries competing for the same customer. Most of them have the same problem: incredible product, forgettable brand.
Wild Flour Bakery was conceived as a studio concept to answer a very specific question — what does a small-batch artisan bakery brand look like when it's done with the same care and craft as the bread itself? One that feels nostalgic but not outdated. Handmade but not amateur. Local but not small.
"What does a bakery brand look like when it's built with the same care as the bread it sells?"
The challenge was to build a complete brand identity system that could live across every touchpoint — from the logo on a paper bag to a social media post to in-store signage — while feeling cohesive, warm, and deeply human at every scale.

Logo system — primary lockup, secondary mark, and icon variations
— the approach
Built from the
inside out.
Before touching a single design tool, we started with the story. Who bakes this bread? Who buys it? What does it feel like to hold a warm loaf wrapped in kraft paper, tied with twine? Brand identity that lasts starts with feeling, not fonts.
The visual direction drew from the texture of slow baking — cream and warm brown as the foundation, wheat gold as the accent, herb green as a supporting note. A palette that feels like a Sunday morning at a farmers market rather than a corporate food brand.
The typography paired a bold, slightly distressed display font for headlines — evoking the weight of good bread and the character of hand-lettered signage — with a clean, legible sans-serif for supporting text. The tension between the two created the rustic-modern balance the brand needed.

— illustration system
Every loaf.
Hand drawn.
The signature element of the Wild Flour identity is its custom illustration system — a set of hand-drawn characters and bakery elements that bring the brand to life across packaging, social media, and collateral.
The hero character — a child carrying an armful of baguettes — captures the joy and abundance of the brand. Supporting illustrations of bread, wheat stalks, rolling pins, and pastries create a visual language that can be mixed and matched across any touchpoint without ever feeling repetitive or generic.

— packaging and print
The brand you can
hold in your hands.
A bakery brand lives on the shelf, on the table, and in the hands of the customer. The packaging system was designed to make every product feel like a gift — kraft paper wrapping printed with the illustration pattern, a hand-stamped logo tag tied with twine, and label designs that pull from the full colour palette.
Print collateral included a fully illustrated single-page menu, custom stickers and stamps for in-store use, and packaging inserts that carried the brand story directly to the customer's hands. Every piece was designed to be print-ready and production-realistic — not just a pretty mockup.

— Social media
Built to live
on every screen.
The brand identity was extended into a complete social media template system — designed for Instagram and Facebook, covering product launches, ingredient spotlights, seasonal promotions, and launch countdowns.
Every template was built to be easy to use without a designer — clear text zones, locked brand elements, and a modular structure that lets the bakery swap out photos and copy while the brand stays perfectly consistent.

— the result
A brand that feels
deeply cared for.
Wild Flour launched — conceptually — with a complete, cohesive identity that could compete with established artisan food brands while remaining accessible and warm. The kind of brand that makes a customer trust the product before they've tasted it.
Every element — from the illustrated packaging to the social templates to the brand guidelines — was designed to be immediately usable by a small team without a dedicated designer on staff. The system is flexible enough to grow with the brand, and distinctive enough to stand out on any shelf.
"What does a bakery brand look like when it's built with the same care as the bread it sells?"
For a real food & beverage business looking for this level of brand work, this project represents what's possible when identity, packaging, print, and digital are designed together as one system — not bolted together from separate vendors.

Wild Flour Bakery is a small-batch artisan bakery specializing in handcrafted sourdough and rustic pastries. For this project, the goal was to create a warm, tactile brand identity that felt nostalgic yet fresh — rooted in the tradition of slow, mindful baking. We developed a full visual system including a hand-drawn logo, secondary mark, and packaging graphics inspired by vintage recipe cards, botanical flourishes, and earthy textures. The brand’s personality leans into a sense of homegrown charm with a touch of quiet elegance.
The visual identity features a soft, neutral palette — cream, warm brown, herb green, and wheat gold — paired with serif and sans-serif typography for a balanced, rustic-modern tone. We designed seamless illustrations of bakery elements like bread, wheat stalks, and whisks, which were used across packaging, patterns, and brand collateral. A fully illustrated, single-page menu was created alongside custom stickers, stamps, and signage, all aligned with the hand-drawn look. Social media templates carried the identity across digital channels with launch countdowns, product features, and ingredient spotlights.
The final delivery included a full logo suite, print-ready menu and label designs, a digital launch kit, and a brand guide outlining color usage, type, and illustration treatments. Wild Flour launched with a cohesive, personality-rich identity that could be adapted across both physical and digital touchpoints. The result is a bakery brand that feels not only crafted—but deeply cared for, just like the bread it sells.
